Cobble, cladding & basalt Stone for outdoors and elevations
Cobble stones for driveways, natural wall cladding for elevations and basalt for crisp, durable landscape work.
Durable stones for exterior design
Beyond marble and granite, Stonedge supplies the stones that shape how a home meets its garden and street. These are tough, textured materials chosen for grip, weathering and character rather than polish — and they reward good design and careful laying.
Cobble stones
Cobbles are small, roughly cubic or rounded stones laid in patterns — fans, rows, borders and circles — for driveways, porches, pathways and parking courts. Granite and sandstone cobbles are the most common. Laid on a compacted base, they carry vehicle loads and drain well, and individual stones can be lifted and relaid.
Wall cladding stone
Natural cladding panels and strips add depth and shadow to elevations, compound walls, columns and feature walls inside. Options include split-face sandstone, slate-style ledgers, rock-face granite and thin veneers that reduce load on the structure.
Basalt
Basalt is a dense, dark volcanic stone with a fine, even grain. Honed or flamed, it gives a calm charcoal surface for pool surrounds, steps, paving and contemporary façades, and holds up well to weather and foot traffic.
Design ideas
Design ideas for driveways, walls and gardens
Exterior stone has a big impact on how a bungalow or farmhouse is perceived from the street. A few ideas our clients in Ahmedabad and around S.P. Ring Road often ask about:
- Cobble fan pattern driveway — classic European look; a granite cobble border frames the drive and slows cars down.
- Mixed paving — large-format flamed granite or basalt slabs with cobble strips between them for grip and drainage.
- Stacked-stone feature wall — ledger-style cladding at the entrance or around a staircase, lit from below to bring out the texture.
- Basalt pool surround — a dark, honed or flamed edge that frames the water and stays comfortable underfoot.
- Stepping stones — thick sandstone or basalt pads set into lawns and gravel.
Choosing for durability
For vehicle areas choose dense granite cobbles or thick slabs. For walls, match the panel weight to the wall and use mechanical fixing at height. For wet areas around pools and fountains, choose textured finishes and low-porosity stones, and seal them to reduce algae and staining. Our team will advise based on the exact location and use.
Installation
Laid properly, built to last
Exterior stone succeeds or fails on its base. For driveways we lay cobbles on a compacted sub-base with the right bedding and joint fill for vehicle loads; for cladding we use the correct adhesives and mechanical fixing for the height and panel weight. Our project team can execute the work or coordinate with your contractor.
Price & care
Price factors and maintenance
Pricing depends on stone type, size and thickness, finish, pattern complexity and installation. Outdoor stone needs little care: wash periodically, refill joints as needed and apply a breathable sealer to porous stones to resist staining.

Exterior stone questions
Are cobble stones suitable for car driveways?
Yes, when laid on a properly compacted base with suitable bedding. Granite cobbles are the most durable choice.
Which wall cladding stone is best for elevations?
Split-face sandstone and rock-face granite are popular for their texture and durability. The right choice depends on the design, colour and wall height.
Is basalt slippery when wet?
A flamed or sandblasted basalt finish gives good grip outdoors. Polished basalt is best kept indoors.
